废名是中国现代文学史上一个十分独特的存在。他杂取、糅合中、西、古、今资源,然后“回心”个人,不仅形成了一种独具特色的美学风格,而且形塑了一个复杂而又独特的知识分子灵魂。此中,有一样资源一直贯穿他思想的始终,这便是“个人主义”。终其人生的各个阶段,“个人主义”对废名都产生着十分复杂甚或十分矛盾的影响。就文学表现而言,“个人主义”一方面让废名坚守文学的非功利性,表现出了独特的审美表现主义特色; 但另一方面,又让他步入了“趣味主义”的泥潭之中无法自拔。而就文化影响而言,个人主义思潮,一方面让废名实现了梦寐以求的、“五四”式的、具有英雄主义情结的“启蒙-载道”观,另一方面又让他沾染了浓厚的虚无主义气息,表现出了强烈的悲观主义情绪。就此而言,“个人主义”犹如一面双面镜,构成了其文学与思想的“两副面孔”。
Abstract:
Fei Ming holds a distinctive position in the history of modern Chinese literature. By taking and combining the Chinese, western, ancient and modern resources and “returning to his own mind”, Fei Ming not only forms the distinctive aesthetic style, but also forges a complicated and unique intellectual soul. Among them, one kind of resources remains there throughout the development of his ideas, i.e. “individualism”. During each phase of Fei Ming's life, “individualism” exerts rather complicated or contradictory effects on him. In terms of literature creation, on the one side, “individualism” let him keep the non-utilitarian principle of literature which shows the feature of the aesthetic expressionism; but on the other side, it traps him into the quagmire of “doctrine of taste”. In terms of cultural influence, on the one hand, individualism enables Fei Ming to realize the longed for view of “enlightenment-truth conveying” with a heroic complex which embodies the spirit of the May 4th Movement; on the other hand, individualism taints him with nihilism which reveals strong pessimistic feelings. For these reasons, “individualism” is like a double-sided mirror, which constitutes “two faces” of Fei Ming's literature and thoughts.
